Layne Staley is probably one of the coolest frontmen ever. A sensitive yet tortured figure of the 90s. His band Alice in Chains, created murky Grunge/Alternative Metal that touched the hearts of millions not only in the United States but to places like Brasil. I watched Alice in Chains perform in Brasil and it was crazy!
Would? is one of Alice in Chains most successful songs. The video became instant classic with the level of coolness in that room and of course that shirt! Enjoy “Would?” and experience the deep lyricism of one of Alternative Rock’s Gods.
I don’t know about y’all but i can groove to this classic! One of the best songs to ever come out by alternative legends New Order.
“I feel fine and I feel good
I’m feeling like I never should
Whenever I get this way
I just don’t know what to say
Why can’t we be ourselves like we were yesterday
I’m not sure what this could mean
I don’t think you’re what you seem
I do admit to myself
That if I hurt someone else
Then I’ll never see just what we’re meant to be”
I just love everything about this song. Dancing to this song is cool, i hope to write a scene in a movie or in a book where this song is playing and some cool stuff goes down. “Bizarre Love Triangle” is taking from 1986 album Brotherhood, a album equally divided between post punk and electronic style.
As a whole i’m becoming a bigger fan of New Order each day!
For The National, alternative rock heroes formed in Cincinnati, life is good! They have just come off of a Grammy Nomination for their newest album Trouble Will Find Me. Now i’m partial to Nine Inch Nails so i can’t say that they should have won over the gents at Vampire Weekend, but if NIN (My favorite Band) wasn’t nominated i definitely would have gone for them. Crisp choruses, beautiful melodies, Post-Punk Glory, Lead Vocalist Matt croons like the scruffy American offspring of Ian Curtis.
“Don’t Swallow the Cap” and “Sea of Love” are my favorites from the album and they will both get you into the band pretty quick. Some say this is rock for dads and I say those would be some pretty cool dads…
-Anthony Day Grandin
They called it Punky Joy Division From a band that has exploded on the scene with a real Jakobinarina vibe. I think they are from Denmark, and they produced arguably the Album of the Year in the Alternative world. All the influences come together so beautiful on this jam, called “Remember” from 2011’s New Brigade
Today’s SONG OF THE DAY!
What comes into your head when someone says Emo, Screamo or Punk? Loud, abrasive and screamed songs. MayDay parade aren’t exactly screamo, but they are as Emo as it comes. Emo music has never been as elegant as “Terrible Things”
“Terrible Things” is about a love story, between two people who grow old. Its about true love just as much as Michael Heneke’s “Amour” was. Terrible Things is a beautiful ballad which is sad enough to bring you to tears.
Even if you aren’t a fan of emo, punk, or even alternative rock, you’ll be surprised at the majestic, vintage feel to Terrible Things. It sounds like something Elton John would write, and its truly impressive.
You won’t find a good song here, just early 80s Hardcore that had a lot to say politically. Controversial Hardcore Punk band Reagan Youth who drew criticism…well it’s kind of obvious because of the name! But also, they were on the same level as Dead Kennedy’s with what they were saying.
Most of their songs aren’t anything amazingly special. If you want the best Hardcore punk i’d still recommend Black Flag or Bad Brains, but Reagan Youth have their moments and this is one.
If you are a real punk you’ve heard of Reagan Youth, and if you are a 21st Century Punk who wears a hundred dollar skinny jeans, you probably think that Sleeping with Sirens is punk because they say so! Well young man or young lady, stop right there. You’ve got no class!
When you say Keane you think of soft piano rock, but on their sophomore album Keane went very Dark. Under the Iron Sea is one of beast albums of the last thirteen years. It’s really brilliant, it’s a lovelorn nightmare that absolutely pushes the limits of alternative rock with crazy storytelling, wildly imaginative lyrics and songs that were both catchy and intricate.
Let it Slide was a B-Side to Under the Iron Sea that took a back sea to “Is It Any Wonder’ which had considerable amounts of success in the United States. Both Let It Slide and Is It any Wonder are vicious piano and synth assaults that are lightened by Tom Chaplin’s vocals.
Let It Slide was one of the first songs i heard from Keane and it made me finally find my first favorite band. It became one of my favorite songs for the lengthy instrumental that dominates the second half of the song. it dominates your ears and while the song lacks the brilliant lyrics that most Keane songs are known for, the music is there.
This is easily Keane’s best least known song, and it gets no play. I love Keane so much, and as their greatest hits album comes out it might be the death of a dream for them to continue making records for years! But everything has to come to and end and hopefully on their final tour Keane will bring that end to a proper close!
I’m sorry, its the song of the day for the second time! “I’m holding onto the joy of desire” as Harry McVeigh sings in the lead single to the White Lies highly anticipated new album Big TV.
I think that more people have to hear this song and please comment below what you think, because this song is bloody brilliant. It’s really that good, its Goth Disco, Post Punk Dance, Alternative Rock Heaven.
Check it out, and it’s amazing video inspired by a Bollywood Film! WOOT
